Painting Xyston spartans

About a year ago I came across a fairly large stock of Xyston greeks, coincidentally my main period of interest. Picking through the spartan figures I believe I have enough for at least a couple of units, so as good an excuse for a new army as any!

The spartans are some of my favourites from the Xyston range. As with all Xyston figures they are sculpted in a clean and realistic fashion, no action-figure fencing poses รก la "300" in other words (more on that note later...). The features identifying these guys as particularly spartan is the pilos helmet and long dreadlock-style hair dos but they could just as well be used for any late greek hoplites, if you're not to anal about your hellenistic hair styles I guess.

Be that as it may, here's the first unit I painted for the spartan army. Apologies for the poor pictures.
